Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What kind of device can I use to submit a Timber Sale bid?

You can use any device with an internet browser (phone, computer, tablet). The Timber Sale Bid form is designed to work on computers, mobile phone and tablets. Apple, Android, and Windows devices can be used.

Q: Is an email address required to bid online?

While an email address is not required it is highly recommended – a confirmation copy of the submitted bid will be sent as a pdf if an email address is entered.

Q: Where do I find my Bidder PIN number?

Your Bidder PIN number is located on the Timber Sale announcement that was emailed to you.  It is a 7-digit number assigned to your company.   If your PIN number has any zeros at the beginning, they must be included.  If you did not receive an emailed Bid announcement from us, you can call our office and we will look up your PIN number for you.  If you have never bid on our sales in the past, please fill-in your contact information and proceed with submitting your bid – a new PIN will be assigned to you after the Bid opening.

Q: On the form, what is the red asterisk (Required form field indicator)?

These are fields that must be filled in before the Timber Sale bid can be submitted.

Q: What is the circled black "i" icon (Form field information)?

These provide extra help for what needs to be filled in the box, just double-tap or hover your mouse over the icon for additional popup help.

Q: What is the circled red "!" icon (Form field error indicator)?

These will pop up when a field is left blank that is required or when the entered value is not valid.

Q: What does the Yellow exclamation mark mean (Form validation error indicator)?

This will appear whenever one or more required items (Required form field indicator) have not been entered. Enter the missing items and click Next.

Q: Why doesn’t anything happen when I first select a Timber Sale Name?

Please be patient. It could take up to 30 seconds to retrieve all of the bid details for the selected sale.

Q: What is Contract Type?

Mill scale – all wood harvested will be scaled at the mill, which will be the basis for stumpage payments.
Lump Sum – total bid price is the “lump sum” basis for stumpage payments, regardless of the actual volume harvested.
BCPL Scale – BCPL will scale all harvested timber on site.

Q: What is Bidding Type?

All species that are being sold as “PULP, or Pulp & Bolts” can be whole tree chipped if desired – checking chip bidding will automatically add 30% to the estimated volume and adjust the minimum bid down by 30%.  The system defaults to Round Wood Bidding.

Q: Do I have to bid on all species for a selected Timber Sale?

You must enter a bid for all species listed for the Timber Sale.

Q: Can I bid less than the minimum bid for a species?

No.  If you are unwilling to bid the minimum price shown you cannot bid on this Timber Sale..

Q: Can I change a bid that has been already submitted?

Yes, you can.  Submit another bid for the same Timber Sale from your company (be sure to use the same PIN number as the previously submitted bid).  This will replace (overwrite) your previous bid..

Q: Can I withdraw a submitted bid?

Yes - contact a forester (https://bcpl.wisconsin.gov/Pages/Contact.aspx) at the Lake Tomahawk office to have a submitted bid withdrawn.

Q: How is the winning bid determined?

The highest TOTAL BID AMOUNT is used to determine the winning bidder for each Timber Sale.

Q: I entered a bid amount, but a circled red icon (Form field error indicatorstill appears. Now what?

Verify your bid is above the Minimum Bid shown.  Verify you have entered a bid for all species.  Verify your bid is a valid dollar amount (5.50 and 5 are valid entries, 5.5 is not a valid entry)

Q: What is the Save and Exit button for?

This button is not currently used.  In the future, you will be allowed to save bids part way through and finish them at a later time.

Q: What does Session Timeout mean and what needs to be done next?

After 5 or more minutes have passed since you last worked with an open form, a message will appear saying "Your session has expired. You must start over."  You will need to close the browser window, use the link to reopen the form, and start the bid over again.

Q: Will I get a chance to review information before submitting the bid?

Yes, you will.  You will get an opportunity to review all entered information one last time before submittal..

Q: Can I find out who else has bid on a timber sale?

No, you cannot see what other companies have bid. You can see how many bids have been received for each Timber Sale. You will get a list of received bids for all Timber Sales once you have submitted your bid – you can also view this list here https://wi.accessgov.com/bcpl-external/Forms/Page/bidforms/loggersbidreport during the bidding period.
